Western New England Outmatches Women's Basketball

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Western New England University used a fast start to power past the Wentworth women's basketball team, 67-37, on Tuesday evening inside the Alumni Health Living Center Gymnasium.

Despite an opening three-pointer from sophomore Erin Morton (Norway, Maine), the Golden Bears turned a 14-4 run to lead by double digits after the first quarter. The hosts held Wentworth to just six points in the second frame, scoring 19 of their own led by seven from Lauren Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine), to hold a commanding 33-13 lead at halftime.

Wentworth had its best offensive showing fresh out of the break, as the Leopards answered all but two of 19 points from Western New England in the third quarter. Junior Sam McGibbon (Pembroke, Mass.) and sophomore Stephanie Mini (Topsfield, Mass.) scored six points apiece in the stretch – with all of McGibbon's buckets coming from long range – but Western New England shut the doors on the contest with another double-digit performance in the fourth quarter.

Morton led Wentworth as its lone player in double figures with 10 points, while Mini followed with eight boards and five rebounds. Classmate Molley Duclos (Greenfield, Mass.) also pulled down five boards in the effort.

Junior Emily Farrell (New Fairfield, Conn.)  outscored all players on the court with 15 points for the Golden Bears, while Meghan Orbann (East Hampton, Conn.) was just short of a double-double with eight points and 11 boards.

Wentworth (3-16, 1-8 CCC) hosts Roger Williams on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
