Colby-Sawyer Snaps Women's Lacrosse's Win Streak

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Michelle Upham (Chelsea, Vt.) scored six goals to help pace the Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team to a 17-11 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in non-conference action at Sweeney Field.

With the win the Chargers even their record at 2-2 while the Leopards see their three-game win streak snap and stand at 3-2 on the season.

Colby-Sawyer scored five of the first six goals to take an early, 5-1 lead. Sophomore Caitlyn Whearty (Hampstead, N.H.) scored twice and Upham added one in a span of 1:14 to begin the game. Leopard sophomore Pam Mudge (Hooksett, N.H.) got the hosts on the board with 21:32 left before senior Adrienne Bender (Wakefield, R.I.) and junior Carly Baker (Beverly, Mass.) made it 5-1.

Junior Alexandrea Banks (Ellington, Conn.) scored two of the next three Leopard goals and classmate Jessica Houghton (Billerica, Mass.) added one, sandwiched around an Upham tally to make it a 6-4 game. The Leopards trailed, 9-6, before a Houghton free position shot just before the half made it a 9-7 game.

Upham and Houghton traded goals to open the second half before the Chargers took a 12-8 lead on markers by Baker and Upham. However, the Leopards would tally two straight – both by Houghton – to make it a two-goal game (12-10) with 19:30 remaining.
