Fitchburg State Tops Women's Lacrosse

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Andrea Comeau (Watertown, Mass.) and freshman Corrine DeSimone (Dennis, Mass.) each scored four goals and an assist to help the Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 16-6, in non-conference action at Sweeney Field.

The Falcons win their program-record seventh straight to stand at 7-1, while the Leopards drop their fifth straight to stand at 2-5.

DeSimone scored first for the Falcons 45 seconds into the game and finished the half with a pair of goals. Comeau scored a trio of goals in the first half. Four other Flacons scored in the first, including Comeau who found the back of the net three times.

The Leopards got on the board with an unassisted goal from junior Pam Mudge (Hooksett, N.H.) with 22:23 left. Sophomore Molly Dufresne (Plaistow, N.H.) wrapped up the first half scoring, as the Falcons led 9-2 going into halftime.

Junior Brianna Dunn (Monson, Mass.) started the second half by scoring her second goal of the game. Sophomore Kayla Panek (Belchertown, Mass.) and DeSimone each added a pair of goals in the second half.

Mudge scored her second of the game and sophomore Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass) scored a pair in the second half. However, Fitchburg's offense continued to soar, as the Falcons took it 16-6.

Panek each finished with three goals. Winning junior goalie Elizabeth Darrigo (Billerica, Mass.) made six saves in her 52 minutes of play. Senior Robyn Pacini (Stoneham, Mass.) stopped a program-record 25 shots for the Leopards while Holland and Mudge had two goals each.

Wentworth continues its home stand on Monday, when the Leopards host Becker at 7 p.m. Fitchburg State returns home Saturday to host conference foe Westfield State.
