BOSTON, Mass. - Junior Jaclyn Langevin (Bow, N.H.) notched the game-winning goal with 4:07 remaining to help lift the University of Maine-Farmington women's lacrosse team over Wentworth Institute of Technology, 15-14, in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night at Sweeney Field.
Maine-Farmington improves to 2-1, while Wentworth falls to 2-4.
The lead fluctuated between the Leopards and the Beavers throughout the first half. On the Leopards' first goal, senior Pam Mudge recorded the assist and became the program's all-time leading scorer as she finished the game with 108 career points, breaking the mark of 104 set by Jess Houghton '15.
Wentworth took a 5-3 lead on a marker by junior Amanda Dexter (Harvard, Mass.), but UMF answered with the equalizer on a goal from senior Michaela Sargent (Scarborough, Maine).
Neither team registered a goal for nearly 10 minutes until freshman Brooke Paradis' (Pelham, N.H.) goal at 2:43 put the Leopards on top 6-5. The Beavers followed up with two consecutive markers that gave them the 7-6 edge to end the half.
Just 34 seconds into the second half, a marker from sophomore Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine) set off a four-goal run for the Beavers as they took the 11-6 lead. In a 10-minute span, freshman Jenna Tetreau (Dudley, Mass.) notched three of six Wentworth nets to regain the 12-11 lead. The Beavers, however, recharged and found the back of the net three times to take the 14-12 advantage.
All evened up at 14-14 with 4:47 ticks remaining on the clock, Langevin notched the game-winning net 40 seconds later to put the Beavers up 15-14. Wentworth nearly sent the game into overtime with eight seconds left, but Mudge's attempt hit the post and Maine-Farmington locked up the 15-14 victory.
Senior Hayley Patton (Cranston, R.I.) registered 18 saves through 60 minutes. Tetreau led the Black & Gold with four goals, while Mudge racked up two goals and two helpers. Sophomore Sam Webb (Westminster, Md.) had three caused turnovers. Freshman Caitlin McCormick (Hanson, Mass.) scooped up five ground balls.
Sophomore Alyssa Arsenault (Winthrop, Maine) had seven saves shots. Both Langevin and junior Rhi Jackson (Saco, Maine) led the Beavers with four goals each. Langevin won eight draw controls, while Jackson scooped up four ground balls.
Wentworth faces Emerson at home on Thursday at 6:00 p.m., while Maine-Farmington travels to New England College on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
