Western New England Runs Past Women's Lacrosse

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – A trio of players scored four goals apiece to help the Western New England University women's lacrosse team earn a 23-8 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest Saturday afternoon at Golden Bear Stadium.

With the win the Golden Bears improve to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in CCC play while the Leopards fall to 2-8 (0-2).

The hosts took a 3-0 lead in the first 9:15 before freshman Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) scored twice to cut the deficit to a single goal. With 14:15, graduate student Liz Glavin (Ipswich, Mass.) scored on a free-position shot to make it a 5-4 game, however Western New England closed out the first half on an 8-1 run and led 13-5 at the break.

Junior Amanda Dexter (Harvard, Mass.) and Paradis combined to score three goals in the early minutes of the second to help chop Western New England's lead in half at 16-8, however the Golden Bears scored the game's final seven markers – including a pair from senior Taylor Scialdone (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) to claim the win.

Scialdone, senior Bethany Peters (Baiting Hollow, N.Y.) and sophomore Julia Winer (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored four goals apiece to pace the hosts while Winer and senior Ashley Brunner (Stratford, Conn.) had three assists. Senior Emma Norden (Belchertown, Mass.) won six draw controls. Sophomore Shannon McFadden (West Islip, N.Y.) made four saves in the win as the Golden Bears had advantages in shots (55-14), ground balls (27-19), and draw controls (20-13).

Paradis led the Leopards with four goals and won six draw controls while Dexter added a pair of markers. Senior Hayley Patton (Cranston, R.I.) made 21 saves and scooped up four ground balls.

Wentworth returns home to face Curry at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Western New England heads to Roger Williams on Tuesday.
