HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team wrapped up its spring break trip with a 16-8 loss to Medaille.
With the win the Mavericks improve to 3-0 while the Leopards fall to 0-3.
Four different players – sophomore Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.), freshman Kaitlyn Darveau (South China, Maine), senior Sage Vadenais (Fiskdale, Mass.), and senior Brande Holland (Lynn, Mass.) – each scored two goals for Wentworth. Holland also won six draw controls and both she and Holland had two ground balls apiece.
Wentworth opened the game's scoring before surrendering a pair of goals within 34 seconds of each other. A Leopard goal with 20:50 remaining evened the score at 2-all, however the Mavericks scored four straight to make it 6-2. Wentworth pulled within three goals (6-3) with a goal with 22 seconds left.
The Black & Gold made it 6-4 just a marker just 34 seconds into the second half before Medaille scored five straight to take an 11-4 lead with 22:04 remaining. Wentworth followed with a pair of goals 69 seconds apart to make it 11-6 but the Mavericks put two straight home to increase the lead to 13-6. A Leopard goal with 15:46 left made it 13-7 before Medaille scored three of the final four goals in the game.
Junior Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass.) made seven saves in the loss.
Wentworth hosts Mass. College on Tuesaday night.
