MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Freshman Maddie Villareal (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored six goals and added an assist to help pace the Salve Regina University women's lacrosse team to a 23-5 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both squads.

With the win the Seahawks improve to 4-1 overall (1-0 CCC) while the Leopards fall to 2-4 (0-1).

Salve Regina kept Wentworth off the scoreboard for the first eight goals of the contest with Villreal and sophomore Lindsey Smith (North Attleboro, Mass.) each scoring three times in the first 14:08.

The Leopards cracked the ice with 15:18 left in the half on a freshman Kaitlyn Darveau (South China, Maine) goal but the Seahawks scored the next seven times, including a pair each from Villreal and junior Katie Kline (Brookfield, Conn.). Sophomore Jenna Tetreau (Dudley, Mass.) scored with 1:41 left in the half to make it 15-2 at the break.

Villreal opened the second half with a goal before junior Sam Webb (Duxbury, Mass.) converted a free-position shot just under four minutes later. Salve Regina scored the next five times while senior Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass.) bookended the Seahawks' final two goals with two goals of her own.

Holland finished with two goals and an assist for the Black & Gold while also winning three draw controls. Sophomores Leah Cummins (Plymouth, Mass.) and Brooke Paradis (Windham, N.H.) had two caused turnovers apiece. Sophomore Liz Gunning (Fort Salonga, N.Y.) made 10 saves.
