BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Nicole Schofield's (Troy, Maine) goal with 4:38 remaining snapped a 9-all tie and lifted the University of Maine Farmington women's lacrosse team to a 10-9 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in non-conference action Thursday night on Sweeney Field.

Winners of three straight, the Beavers improve to 3-1 while the Leopards fall to 2-6 on the season.

Three of the first four goals were scored on free position shots as UMF took a 2-1 lead with 25:10 remaining. Wentworth sophomore Jenna Tetreau (Dudley, Mass.) kicked things off with a goal 1:38 into the contest before seniors Rhi Jackson (Saco, Maine) and Jaclyn Langevin (Bow, N.H.) scored 2:26 apart to give the visitors the lead.

Leopard senior Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass.) tied the game just 21 seconds later, however junior Sierra Gilley (Harpswell, Maine) scored twice and Jackson had a goal and an assist as the Beavers took a 5-2 lead. Tetreau made it 6-3 after she converted a free position shot with 15:40 left before Jackson scored twice and Gilley added a late goal, giving UMF an 8-3 lead at the half.

Sophomore Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) scored three times and freshman Shannon Sturtz (Littleton, Mass.) scored with 13:08 left to make it 8-7. Junior Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine) made it 9-7 with 9:24 left but Wentworth would mount a comeback, scoring twice in a span of 2:15 to tie the game at 9-all. Holland scored on a free position shot with 7:45 left while sophomore Leah Cummins (Plymouth, Mass.) evened the score with 5:30 to play.

Schofield's goal came off a long clearing attempt as she was fed the ball by sophomore Samantha Cross, giving the visitors a one-goal cushion.

Wentworth had a chance to tie the game with 1:03 remaining, however freshman Samantha Bickford (Oxford, Maine) came up with a save. On the ensuing clear attempt, Paradis caused a turnover to give the Black & Gold the ball back with 52 seconds left. Wentworth was unable to covert as the Leopards turned the ball over and the Beavers ran out the clock.

Jackson finished with scored four goals and an assist, while winning four draw controls, scooping up eight ground balls, and causing six turnovers. Gilley had three goals and a pair of caused turnovers while Raymond and Langevin had a goal and an assist apiece. Raymond also won five draw controls.

Paradis finished with three goals, one assist, seven ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Tetreau and Holland had two goals apiece. Holland also picked up six ground balls and Tetreau caused two turnovers.

Bickford made eight saves for the Beavers while junior Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass.) had 13 of her 16 saves in the first half. UMF had a 35-21 shot advantage and a 38-33 edge in ground balls.

Wentworth resumes Commonwealth Coast Conference play Saturday when the Leopards host Endicott. UMF hosts Green Mountain in a North Athletics Conference contest on Saturday.
