MILTON, Mass. – Senior Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.) scored five times and assisted on two other goals to help pace the Curry College women's lacrosse team to a 13-8 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field.
With the win the Colonels improve to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play while the Leopards fall to 2-9 (0-5).
Wentworth jumped on the board just 39 seconds into the contest on a goal from senior Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass.). After senior Lauren Carroll (Providence, R.I.) evened the score nearly three minutes later, freshman Julie Dam (Milford, Mass.) converted a free position shot to give the Leopards the lead back.
Two straight Curry goals gave the Colonels a 3-2 lead before sophomore Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) scored a pair of goals in a span of 7:40 which gave the Black & Gold a 4-3 lead. However, Curry would score the final three goals of the first half and the first three goals of the second half to take a 9-4 lead with 20:17 left.
Freshman Marissa Nelson (Cranston, R.I.) ended the drought with a goal with 19:43 left, and, after the Colonels made it 10-5, Holland scored to pull Wentworth to 10-6. A Parker goal made it 11-6 with 12:21 left, however Paradis scored twice in a span of 2:13, bringing the Leopards within three at 11-8 but would get no closer.
In addition to her seven points, Parker won five draw controls. Senior Malorie Knowlton (Norfolk, Mass.) had a pair of goals, scooped up seven ground balls, and caused eight turnovers.
Paraids had four goals, won three draw controls, and caused a pair of turnovers for Wentworth. Holland had two goals and three draw control wins while sophomore Caitlin McCormick (Hanson, Mass.) had three caused turnovers.
Senior Rachel Smith (Arlington, Mass.) made three saves for Curry. Junior Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass.) made 20 saves for Wentworth.
Wentworth is at the University of New England on Tuesday.
