BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) of the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team rewrote the record book with her eight-goal performance as the Leopards picked up their first win of the season with a 14-8 triumph over Emmanuel.
Paradis' eight goals in a game breaks her own record of seven which she set a season ago in a win over Mass. College. She also notched her 100th career marker (becoming the first player in program history to do so) and became the program's all-time point leader as her 120 career points breaks the previous mark of 118, set by Pam Mudge '16.
Wentworth found itself trailing the Saints, 3-1, with 24:08 remaining in the opening frame. The Leopards' lone goal came on a free-position goal from Paradis, which briefly tied the game at 1-all with 26:19 remaining. Two free-position goals from freshman Emily Rogers (Pembroke, Mass.) evened the score at 3-all with 9:15 remaining before Paradis scored the next three goals to give the visitors a 6-3 lead. Sophomore Allison Hutchings (Billerica, Mass.) scored her second goal of the game with 2:36 left in the half to make it 6-4.
Paradis, who already owns the program's career goal record, became the first player in program history to find the back of the net 100 times when she opened the second half with her fourth tally of the game. Five minutes and 46 seconds later she scored from sophomore Shannon Sturtz (Littleton Mass.) to make it 8-4 before Emmanuel got goals from senior Sophia White (Monterey, Calif.) and sophomore Kylie Rice (Bethlehem, Conn.) to make it a two-goal (8-6) game with 18:45 remaining.
Just 32 seconds later, Paradis notched her record-setting 119th point as she scored an unassisted goal, which was one of two she scored during a 4-0 run to extend the lead to 12-6 with 14:13 remaining. Rogers and junior Leah Cummins (Plymouth, Mass.) scored the other two goals for the Black & Gold.
The teams traded goals over the final 11:46 of the contest with sophomore Kaitlyn Darveau (South China, Maine) and sophomore Julie Dam (Milford, Mass.) scoring for Wentworth and senior Stephanie Warn (Hanson, Mass.) and freshman Elizabeth Fortier (Newburyport, Mass.) scoring for Emmanuel.
In addition to her eight goals, Paradis won nine draw controls, picked up three ground balls, and caused two turnovers. Rogers scored three goals and caused a pair of turnovers, while Cummins and junior Caitlin McCormick (Hanson, Mass.) each had two caused turnovers.
Hutchings led Emmanuel with two goals while Warn had a goal, four draw controls, and four ground balls.
Junior Liz Gunning (Northport, N.Y.) made eight saves in the win. Gunning also picked up three ground balls and recorded an assist. Junior Bethany Bonilla (Milton, Mass.) made 11 saves for the Saints. Wentworth had a 39-20 shot advantage while Emmanuel had a 16-15 edge on ground balls.
Wentworth (1-3) hosts Wheelock on Wednesday.
