Galan Highlights All-Conference Selections as Rookie of the Year

BOSTON, Mass. – For the first time in program history, the Wentworth women's lacrosse team landed a major award-winner in the Commonwealth Coast Conference postseason accolades, as freshman Sarah Galan (Colchester, Mass.) was named Rookie of the Year announced Friday morning.

Senior Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) was named to the First Team, while sophomore Emily Rogers (Pembroke, Mass.) took home Third Team honors.

Galan's breakout rookie campaign saw her score 49 goals, 18 assists, and 67 points. Her point total ranks sixth overall among CCC stat leaders, while her 49 goals ranks seventh. Galan was recognized by the conference as CCC Rookie of the Week three times this season, including after a 14-point performance vs Salem State, which set a new school record for the Black & Gold. Not only was Galan a force for the Leopards on offense, but she also ranks top-10 in the CCC in draw controls with 62 this season.

No stranger to conference accolades, Paradis earns her third straight All-Conference nod, and is the first Wentworth women's lacrosse player to be placed on the First Team. As the most decorated women's lacrosse player in Black & Gold history, Paradis is the Leopards' all-time leader in goals, assists, points, and draw controls, and holds several single season and single game records to boot. Paradis takes home First Team honors with 73 goals and 89 points on the year, two front-running statistics that lead her conference opponents. She won 94 total draw controls this year, a season-high for the senior, factoring into her 288 total number over her last four years. From a career standpoint, Paradis will leave her mark in the record books as all-time leader in goals, points, assists, draw controls, ground balls, and free position goals. Her 226 career goals and 280 career points also leads all Wentworth lacrosse players, male or female.

After a successful rookie campaign which saw her land Third Team honors, Rogers continue to mount success for the Leopards this season with 52 goals, 22 assists, and 74 points. At the beginning of the season, Rogers was placed on the watch list for the IWLCA Breakout Player of the Year, and at the time had 30 goals, 12 assists, and 42 points through seven games. She reached a notable milestone in her short career as a sophomore, scoring her 100th point in Wentworth's 21-6 win over Nichols. Rogers has booked at least one point in all 15 games played, highlighted by a 12-point performance against the Fighting Scots, which ultimately led the Leopards to their first CCC playoff appearance. As a versatile midfielder, Rogers also scooped 50 ground balls, which ranks third in the conference leaders, and first among her Leopard teammates.

Wentworth faces Roger Williams tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. for the Quarterfinal round of the CCC Tournament.
