Women's Lacrosse Falls to Plymouth State in Season Opener

Boston, Mass. – The Wentworth women's lacrosse team dropped its season-opener to defending LEC champion Plymouth State University, 14-4, on Wednesday evening at Sweeney Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Wentworth started off strong in the 2020 debut, drawing first blood within the first minute of the game. Sophomore Sarah Galan (Colchester, Conn.) finished a pass from freshman Helen Hamblett (East Boothbay, Maine) for the 1-0 lead, before Plymouth responded with a goal right from the draw immediately after.
  • Plymouth built a 2-1 lead at 28:15, before extending their lead to two goals, 3-1, at 25:13 starting with a caused turnover from Sarah Jackes. PSU went on to score three more goals before Wentworth's Bella MacMahon (North Yarmouth, Maine) put the Leopards back on the scoreboard, hot off the draw from Galan.
  • Lockdown defense kept both teams scoreless until the 13:58 mark, including a point-blank save from WIT junior keeper Lily Kuhns (Gloucester, Mass.), but Plymouth tacked on two more tallies before halftime for an 8-2 lead.
  • Plymouth State outscored the hosts 6-2 in the final 30 minutes of play, reaching running time with 8:26 to go after a free position goal from Emily Samtom.

  • Wentworth owned the circle with an 11-9 advantage in draw controls, while Plymouth State had a slight lead in ground balls 28-22
  • Wentworth went 20-for-27 in clear attempts
