Women's Soccer Ties Emmanuel, 2-2

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Darcey Sullivan (Dalton, Mass.) scored to tie the game at 2-all with 21:49 left in regulation, and despite both teams having chances to pull ahead in the final stages of regulation and win in overtime, Emmanuel and Wentworth played to a 2-all tie in a non-conference contest played on Sweeney Field.

The Saints got on the board early when senior Donandrea Myette (Portsmouth, R.I.) fed junior Kelsie Dumas (Dalton, Mass.), who put a shot inside the right post at 2:17. Junior Olivia Moore (Salem, Conn.) evened the contest for the Leopards 1:56 later when she rifled a shot from the right side that fund the upper left corner.

Both teams would have chances throughout the half and it would be Leopard sophomore Valeria Zapata (Pawtucket, R.I.) who would put the hosts ahead at 35:32 when she took a pass from classmate Jackie McCullough (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and found the left side of the net. While the Leopards had a 2-1 lead after 45:00, the Saints held a 6-5 shot advantage.

Emmanuel applied pressure to open the second half, putting a pair of shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of play before Moore had a chance in the 67th minute. Sullivan knotted the game at 2-all when sophomore Anndie Vigneau (Waterford, Conn.) fed a pass across the box to her and she put home a shot to the left side.

Wentworth had a chance in the 81st minute when Moore had a shot from close range stopped by junior Abaigeal Thivierge (Bennington, Vt.). Emmanuel had a chance on a corner kick play in the final minute, however the Leopards would clear the ball as time wound down.

In the first overtime the Leopards had the first six shot attempts, including when Moore hit the crossbar in the 95th minute and had her rebound attempt sail high. The Leopards held a 7-1 shot advantage in the first extra session.

The Leopards held a 2-1 shot advantage in the second overtime, with both shots by Moore going on net, but could not put home the game winner.

Sophomore Miranda Stuckey (Lafayette, Ind.) made four saves for the Black & Gold, while Thivierge made seven in the final 65 minutes. Sophomore Brenna Smith (Wantagh, N.Y.) made one save in the first half. Wentworth held an 18-14 shot advantage, while the Saints had a 5-1 edge on corner kicks.

Wentworth sits at 1-2-1 and opens Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Saturday against 15th-ranked Roger Williams at 3:00. Emmanuel is 1-3-1 and opens GNAC play on Saturday against Suffolk at Noon.
