Women's Soccer Shuts Out Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior Olivia Moore (Salem, Conn.) and freshman Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) each had a goal and an assist as the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team earned its second straight Commonwealth Coast Conference victory with a 2-0 win over Western New England in CCC action on Suprenant Field.

With the win the Leopards improve to 5-6-2 overall and stand at 3-2-0 in league play. The Golden Bears had their two-game win streak and seven-game (5-0-2) unbeaten streak snapped with the loss.

Despite the first half being scoreless, Wentworth held a 4-2 advantage on shots with three of its four shots going on net, as compared to zero for the Golden Bears. The Leopards also had five of the six corner kicks that were awarded over the first 45:00.

Moore gave the Leopards the only goal they would need when she scored her team leading 11th marker, off a pass from Weinberger, at 61:43.

Western New England had a pair of chances in the 80th minute, however junior keeper Nicole Leahey (Warwick, R.I.) made a saves and then followed it up with a save off of a rebound.

The Leopards added some insurance at 81:26 when Weinberger scored her fifth of the season off a rebound of a Moore shot that was blocked by the defense.

Leahey made four saves for Wentworth while Western New England sophomore Briana Kubik (Blandford, Mass.) made five. The Leopards outshot the Golden Bears by a 16-11 margin, while Western New England held a 6-4 edged on corner kicks.

Wentworth hosts Gordon on Saturday. Western New England is in action on Wednesday, traveling to UMass Boston.
