Women's Soccer Edged by Gordon, 1-0

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Hannah Midwinter's (Barkhamstead, Conn.) goal in the 66th minute of play was the lone marker of the contest and sophomore McKenzie Dion (North Grafton, Mass.) made six saves as the Gordon College women's soccer team remained undefeated in Commonwealth Coast Conference play with a 1-0 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology.

With the win the Fighting Scots, winners of three straight, improve to 14-2 overall (6-0 CCC) while the Leopards fall to 5-8-2 (3-3).

Gordon had an early chance to take the lead, however sophomore Lauren Hayes' (Wantage, N.J.) shot went just wide of the left post in the sixth minute of play.

The Leopards applied pressure and had a pair of scoring chances in the 34th and 37th minutes, however Dion stopped both attempts.

Gordon would hold a 7-6 shot advantage after the first 45:00, with both teams putting three shots on net.

Midwinter took a shot that was blocked by a Leopard defender. The rebound came out through the box where she would collect it and bury a shot to the right side at 65:50.

The Leopards had two chances to tie the game late as senior Jenelle Wolff (Lynnfield, Mass.) rifled a shot that was stopped by Dion and classmate Tori Armishaw (Scarborough, Maine) had a header off a corner kick play with 3:40 left. Wentworth had possession late, however a last-second shot at tying the game didn't beat the final horn.

Junior Nicole Leahey (Warwick, R.I.) made five saves for Wentworth. Shots were even at 14-all and Gordon had a 6-5 edge on corner kicks.

Wentworth is at Eastern Nazarene on Tuesday night while Gordon hosts the University of New England Wednesday afternoon.
