Moore Nets Two in Women's Soccer's Win

NEWPORT, R.I. – Junior Olivia Moore (Salem, Conn.) scored a pair of goals – including netting the game-winning tally with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation – as the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team snapped a three-game winless streak (0-2-1) and kept its hopes for a home playoff game alive with a 2-1 win over Salve Regina.

With the win the Leopards improve to 6-8-3 overall and 4-3-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play. The Seahawks slip to 3-13-1 (1-7-0) with their second straight one-goal loss.

Moore scored her 14th marker of the season on an unassisted tally at 25:40. The lead would stand until there was 7:09 left in the opening frame when the hosts evened the score on a goal from senior Erin McCullough (Ludlow, Mass.). The game would remain tied at the half with Wentworth holding a 10-7 shot advantage.

Freshman Mykaela Scarpace (Marlborough, Mass.) fed Moore, who found the back of the net for her team-leading 15th marker of the season at 80:56. Moore now has 36 points in the season, which places her second on the single-season scoring list behind Kristen Kudlic's 38, set in 2008.

Sophomore Miranda Stuckey (Lafayette, Ind.) made four saves for the Black & Gold. Freshman Carly Montgomery (Malverne, N.Y.) made seven stops for Salve Regina. Wentworth held a 19-12 shot advantage while the Seahawks held a 5-3 edge on corner kicks.

The Leopards conclude their regular season with a 4:00 game against the University of New England on Tuesday. Presently the two teams sit in a tie for fourth place with a 4-3-1 league record (13 points). Salve Regina concludes the regular season on Wednesday at Eastern Nazarene.
