Women's Soccer Shut Out by Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – A pair of goals from senior Hannah Midwinter (Barkhamsted, Conn.) helped lift the Gordon College women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Winners of five straight the Fighting Scots improve to 5-1 while the Leopards slip to 3-2 on the season.

Gordon received the only goal it would need at 17:53 when senior Taylor McSherry (Wolcott, Conn.) fed Midwinter with a pass to the center of the field. The 1-0 lead held until there was 14:12 left in the half when sophomore midfielder Kara Dry (Madison, Conn.) converted a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box to make it 2-0.

Wentworth opened the second half by putting five shots on net, however junior McKenzie Dion (North Grafton, Mass.) kept the Leopards off the scoreboard. In the 73rd minute the Black & Gold had a golden opportunity to make it a one-goal game, however a shot from freshman Emily Richard (Fremont, N.H.) hit the post.

The Fighting Scots tacked on a third goal with 4:36 left when Midwinter tallied her second of the game and third of the season. Dion made a late save to keep the shutout intact and would finish with nine saves.

Senior Beverly Farris (Palmer, Mass.) made 10 saves for the Leopards, including three early in the first half of play.

Wentworth steps out of conference play to host Maine-Farmington tomorrow at 2:00.
