Late Goals Lift Endicott Past Women's Soccer

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Shelby McLenithan (Bennington, Vt.) scored a pair of late goals, coming 2:40 apart and senior Katie Donnelly (Madison, Conn.) made six saves to record her six shutout of the season as the Endicott College women's soccer team won their third straight game with a 2-0 win over Wentworth in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played on Sweeney Field.

With the win the Gulls run their unbeaten streak to five (4-0-1) and improve to 10-3-4 overall and 6-1-1 in league play while the Leopards slip to 7-8-2 (2-5-1).

Endicott had a chance early in the contest when a ball was played into the box. Leopard senior keeper Nicole Leahey (Warwick, R.I.) came out to play it and when it deflected off of her, it found the foot of junior Rebecca Litwin (Westborough, Mass.) Litwin took a shot headed toward an open net, however a Leopard defender cleared the shot away.

Both teams would have chances throughout the remainder of the half, however Leahey and Donnelly helped keep it a scoreless tie. Wentworth had a 6-4 shot advantage at the half.

In the 79th minute, Wentworth had a chance to break the tie when sophomore Michelle Murphy (west Islip, N.Y.) served a corner kick from the right side into the box. Classmate Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) headed the initial shot, which was saved by Donnelly, and the rebound was put just wide by senior Tori Armishaw (Scarborough, Maine).

McLenithan broke the tie at 82:34 when senior Clare Mansfield (Stoneham, Mass.) sent a long pass in from the right side, across the box. McLenithan took a shot from the left side, which went inside the right post. At 85:14 junior Ashley Mueskes (Georgetown, Mass.) sent a pass into the box where McLenithan fired a high shot to the upper right corner.

Leahey finished with four saves for the Leopards, who held a slight (15-13) edge in shots and a 4-2 corner kick advantage.

Both teams conclude the regular season on Tuesday as Wentworth hosts Nichols and Endicott is at Eastern Nazarene.
