SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – All 10 member institutions from the Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the 2014 All-CCC Women's Soccer Team. In addition to the all-conference team, five major individual award winners and a team sportsmanship award winner were also selected.
Roger Williams University junior Mariah Kaiser was named CCC Offensive Player of the Year, while University of New England senior Lindsey Monaco was honored with the CCC Defensive Player of the Year and Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Nichols College freshman Meghan Dunn and University of New England freshman Becca Murphy were both selected as CCC Rookie of the Year, Western New England University senior Avery Clark was also named CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Roger Williams's Tim Moody earned CCC Coach of the Year. Salve Regina University was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.
Wentworth placed four student-athletes on the all-conference team as sophomore Morgan Miller (Schenectady, N.Y.) and sophomore back Mary Pastorelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) were named Second Team All-CCC and senior forward Olivia Moore (Salem, Conn.) and junior forward Valeria Zapata (Pawtucket, R.I.) were honorable mention selections.
Voting for the All-CCC team and each of the major awards was conducted among the CCC women's soccer coaches.
After earning honorable mention honors as a freshman, Miller had a strong sophomore season for the Leopards from her midfield position. Starting 17 of the 18 games in which she has played in, she scored her first collegiate goal in the team's regular-season finale, a 4-0 win over Nichols. That goal held up as the game winner. Miller has started 36 of the 38 games in which she has started for her career and has a goal and an assist to her credit.
Pastorelli was a mainstay on defense for the Black & Gold, helping the squad allow 16 fewer goals to date than they did last season and double the amount of shutouts the 2013 team had, from three to six. Pastorelli helped create numerous offensive opportunities by taking the bulk of the team's free kicks and several corner kicks and recorded her first collegiate goal on a free kick in a 2-1 loss at Western Connecticut. She has started 25 of the 33 games in which she has appeared in her career.
A First Team All-CCC selection and NEWISA All-New England honoree a season ago, Moore earns honorable mention honors after starting 12 of the 14 games in which she appeared and scoring 11 points (four goals and three assists). For her career, she has started 67 of the 70 games in which she has appeared, scoring 32 goals and assisting on 15 others for 79 points. Moore presently ranks second all-time on the program's goals, is sixth in career assists, and third with eight game-winning goals.
Zapata has started 13 of the team's 17 games thus far and leads the team with eight goals scored, while her 17 points are second on the squad. To date she has a pair of multiple-goal games, including recording a hat trick in a 6-0 win over Maine-Farmington. In 43 career games (21 career starts), Zapata has 15 goals and two assists for 32 points.
Wentworth concluded the regular season with an 8-8-2 overall record and a 3-5-2 mark in CCC play. The Leopards earned their third straight CCC Tournament berth and, as the number seven seed, travel to second-seeded Endicott on Saturday for a quarterfinal round contest.
