Women's Soccer Nets Two Early Goals in Shutout of New England College

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team scored twice in the first 8:15 of the contest and never looked back as the Leopards improved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-0 win at New England College.

The win marks the second straight season which Wentworth has started 2-0 and also marked the fourth straight season in which the game has been a shutout with the Leopards winning three of those four. With the loss the Pilgrims stand at 1-1.

Wentworth wasted little time getting on the board as freshman Madyson Reno (Simi Valley, Calif.) recorded her first collegiate marker at 2:08 when she was set up by classmate Gwen Harvey (Doylestown, Pa.).

New England College had an opportunity in the eighth minute as Sara Locke (Springfield, Vt.) took a shot from in front, however Wentworth freshman keeper Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) came up with a fingertip save, keeping the Pilgrims off the board. Moments later the Leopards would grab an insurance goal off a long shot from junior Mary Annon (Concord, N.H.).

Neither team would muster a goal in the second half as the Pilgrims would have the best scoring chance as Caroline Mols (Verona, N.J.) would send a free kick that freshman keeper Christie Fleming (Braintree, Mass.) would tip up and over the crossbar.

Wentworth's Robinson and Fleming would split time in net for the Leopards as Robinson (2-0) finished the game with two saves and Fleming turned away four Pilgrim shots. New England College's Mackenzie Meegan (Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded six saves in 90 minutes of work.

The Leopards host William Paterson on Sunday afternoon at 2:00. New England College will compete at the SUNY Potsdam Tournament this weekend.
