Women's Soccer Posts Third Straight Shutout

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Mary Annon (Concord, N.H.) scored the game's lone goal and freshmen Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) and Christie Fleming (Braintree, Mass.) combined on the shutout as the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team edged William Paterson, 1-0, in a non-conference contest at Sweeney Field.

With the win the Leopards improve to 3-0 for the first time since 2002 and have won all three of their games by way of shutout. The Pioneers see their record even out at 1-1-1.

The hosts carried play in the first half and had an 8-3 shot advantage at the break with a 2-0 advantage on shots on goal. Wentworth would have three chances in the opening few minutes of the contest, however could not convert.

Annon notched her third marker of the season when classmate Morgan Miller (Schenectady, N.Y.) fed a pass to the top of the box. Annon fired a shot when beat William Paterson senor keeper Kat Clint to the left side.

The Pioneers had their best chance in the 78th minute when a corner kick was punched out by Fleming to outside of the box, however a shot by freshman Darcy Perez (Bergenfield, N.J.) went wide of the goal.

Wentworth had a late chance to increase its lead when Annon's bid for her second goal of the game was stopped by Clint in the 88th minute.

Fleming made a pair of saves in the second half to pick up her first collegiate victory. Robinson played the first, not needing to make a save. Clint made five saves in the loss. Wentworth held a 16-8 shot advantage and both teams had two corner kicks.

Wentworth hosts Emmanuel on Tuesday evening while William Paterson is at Centenary on Thursday.
