Women's Soccer Rallies Past Emmanuel

BOSTON, Mass. – A trio of second half goals helped the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team rally to defeat Emmanuel College, 3-1, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at Sweeney Field. The win bumps the Leopards' ledger to 4-0 for the first time since 2002.

Following a scoreless opening stanza, Emmanuel got on the board with a goal from senior Katelyn Fink (Sanford, Maine) at 60:41. Fink located the back of the Wentworth net by lofting a pass from junior Courtney Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) from outside the box that sailed over the head of freshman Rachel Schaeffer (Lumberton, N.J.), which provided the visitors with a one-goal advantage.

Wentworth responded roughly two minutes later as junior Mary Annon (Concord, N.H.) fired a shot over the middle at 62:40 following feeds from sophomores Emily Richard (Fremont, N.H.) and Ali Leach (Stowe, Vt.). Leach would net her team's second marker of the evening by firing a shot from the far side past Emmanuel sophomore goalkeeper Victoria LaRoche (Hudson, N.H.) into the right corner of the Saints' net.

Junior Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) capped the Black and Gold's scoring late in the session by firing home Annon's initial attempt that bounced off the far post at 83:12. Weinberger attempted to score from the top of the box, but LaRoche deflected the initial goal-scoring opportunity.

Wentworth finished the match with 25 shots, while Emmanuel fired eight attempts, including five in the second half. Schaeffer picked up her first collegiate win between the pipes, tallying a pair of stops, while allowing just one goal. LaRoche recorded a game-high 10 stops.

Both teams return to action later this week with Emmanuel hosting Johnson & Wales University on Thursday, September 10 at 7:00 p.m., while Wentworth commences Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Saturday, September 12 by entertaining Roger Williams University at 3:00 p.m.
