Reno Scores Twice as Women's Soccer Defeats Gordon

BOSTON, Mass. – Wentworth Institute of Technology freshman Madyson Reno (Simi Valley, Calif.) notched a pair of goals and sophomore Ali Leach (Stowe, Vt.) recorded one goal as the Leopards defeated Gordon, 3-0, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Sweeney Field.

With the win the Leopards snap a seven-game losing streak to the Fighting Scots and improve to 6-2-1 overall and 2-1-0 in CCC play while Gordon falls to 2-4-2 (0-2-1). It was Wentworth's first win over Gordon since September 29, 2007.

Following a scoreless opening session that saw Wentworth fire eight shots, the Leopards located the back of the net early in the second half as Leach fired home a pass from junior Mary Annon (Concord, N.H.) in front of the Gordon net to the right side. Wentworth attempted to extend its advantage minutes later with back-to-back shots by juniors Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) and Michelle Murphy (West Islip, N.Y.), but neither attempt landed in the Gordon net.

Wentworth doubled its lead at 60:40 when Reno scored of a missed clear by a Fighting Scot defender. Annon played a corner kick into the box, which was headed out by a Gordon defender. However, Reno gained possession and fired a shot off senior Katie Mader's (Scarborough, Maine) hands. Just under four minutes later, Weinberger sent a pass to Reno who would notch her second of the day with a shot to the right side.

Gordon did attempt to slice the deficit late in the session with a pair of shots by sophomore Kaelyn Silveira (Bristol, R.I.), but both attempts were stopped by Wentworth freshman Rachel Schaeffer (Lumberton, N.J.). The Fighting Scots also attempted to score off a corner kick with five minutes remaining, but the Leopards' back lined denied any scoring attempts.

Freshman Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) picked up the win, making one save in 76:17 of action. Schaeffer made three saves over the final 13:43. Mader made six saves for Gordon. Wentworth had a 19-13 shot advantage.

Both teams return to action next week as Wentworth hosts Western Connecticut on Monday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m., while Gordon hosts Colby-Sawyer entertains Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday, September 30 at 3:30 p.m.
