Women's Soccer Volunteers with Strong Women, Strong Girls

BOSTON, Mass. – On Saturday, April 9, the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team volunteered to help the Strong Women, Strong Girls organization with their event "Jump into Spring." The event was focused on the theme graduation with, "the purpose to provide all girl participants, college women mentors, strong leaders, community partners, and family and friends with a journey of fun, empowerment, and transformation!"

At the start of the event the Leopards made a tunnel then cheered and high-fived girls as they arrived at the event just like the beginning of every soccer game. Then there were 10-minute workshops that the young girls rotated through for about an hour.

The team ran a soccer clinic workshop focused on teaching the basic skills of soccer and promoting teamwork to approximately 200 girls from the Boston area, all aged 8-12. All the girls were both energetic and excited to get to talk and play with our team. One girl came up to the team and said, "I play soccer! One day I want to be a college soccer player just like you guys!" It was wonderful to see the way her face lite up when she talked and passed the soccer ball with the team.

Strong Women Strong Girls empowers girls to imagine a broader future though a curriculum grounded on female role models delivered by college women mentors, who are themselves mentored by professional women. Wentworth hopes to start its own branch of Strong Women Strong Girls in the future.
