Women's Soccer Shuts Out Albertus Magnus in Season Opener

BOSTON, Mass. – Three different players tallied goals and junior Emily Richard (Fremont, N.H.) picked up a pair of assists as the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team blanked Albertus Magnus, 3-0, in the season opener for both squads.

After recording six shots in the opening 10 minutes, the Leopards got the only goal they would need in the form of a junior Ali Leach (Stowe, Vt.) marker at 10:06. Richard played the ball from the right side across the box to Leach who buried the shot inside the left post.

Richard would factor in Wentworth's second goal of the game when she served a corner kick from the left mark to freshman Sidney Brogan (Los Angeles, Calif.), who put home a low shot for her first collegiate marker at 28:35. In the 38th minute the Leopards nearly went ahead by a 3-0 score after senior Morgan Miller (Schenectady, N.Y.) launched a shot from 30 yards out that was headed to sneak under the crossbar. However, Falcon sophomore keeper Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) batted the ball over the crossbar at the last second.

Outshooting the visitors by a 12-2 margin in the second half, the Leopards rounded out the scoring at 62:17 when Brogan sent a pass along the right side to senior Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.), who put the shot home to the right side.

Sophomore Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) made a pair of saves to pick up the shutout. Fenn turned aside eight shots. Wentworth had a 22-6 shot advantage and a 4-1 edge on corner kicks.

The Leopards host UMass Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon.
