Women's Soccer Rolls Past Curry in CCC Opener

MILTON, Mass. – Senior Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) recorded a pair of goals to help the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team open Commonwealth Coast Conference play with a 4-0 win over Curry at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the win the Leopards improve to 4-0 on the season, marking the second straight season the Black & Gold have been undefeated through their first four games. The Colonels fall to 3-2.

Wentworth put three shots on net in the first 10 minutes of the contest, however all were denied by senior Morgan Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.). The Leopards continued to attack and broke the ice at the 29:36 mark when senior Mykaela Scarpace sent a pass into the box where Weinberger headed the ball home. That would be the lone goal of the first half and the visitors held a 1-0 lead at the break.

Just 25 seconds into the second half Wentworth added an insurance goal when sophomore Madyson Reno (Simi Valley, Calif.) set up Weinberger for her fourth goal of the season.

At the 52:16 mark, junior Emily Richard (Fremont, N.H.) made it a 3-0 game after she put home the rebound of her own missed shot. Late in the contest the Leopards rounded out the scoring on a goal from freshman Shannon Sturtz (Littleton, Mass.) as she put her own rebound in the net.

Sophomore Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) recorded her third shutout of the season, needing to make just a pair of saves in the contest. Stott made eight saves while freshmen Katelyn DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) and Kristen Buzzotta (Lynnfield, Mass.) combined to make one save over the final 17:13. Wentworth had a 15-4 shot advantage for the game.

The Leopards travel to Brandeis Thursday night for a game against the 13th-ranked (NSCAA preseason poll) Judges.
