Women's Soccer Notches First-Ever Win at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – Five different players scored goals, including junior Emily Richard (Fremont, N.H.) who also added a pair of assists to pace the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team to its first-ever win at Gordon as the Leopards defeated the Fighting Scots, 5-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Wentworth, which was 0-12 lifetime at Gordon entering the game, improves to 10-3-2 overall and remains tied atop the CCC standings with a 5-0-1 record. The Fighting Scots fall to 6-7-1 (2-3-1) with the loss.

After an early shot attempt by Gordon, Wentworth controlled play for the remainder of the half, holding an 11-1 shot advantage at the break. The Leopards received the only goal they would need in the game at the 28:11 mark when freshman Sidney Brogan (Los Angeles, Calif.) capitalized on a Fighting Scot turnover and fired a shot to the lower left corner, past freshman Jordan Bellamy (Washington, D.C.).

Richard picked up her first helper of the day on a senior Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) marker at 50:19. Richard fed Weinberger who drove through the defense and fired a shot to the top right corner. Just 2:27 later, Richard tied the program's single-season record for assists (12) when she fed a pass to classmate Ali Leach (Stowe, Vt.), who took a shot from the right side of the box which glanced off the left post and went in.

At 57:27 Richard picked up Wentworth's fourth goal of the afternoon off a feed from senior Mary Annon (Concord, N.H.). Annon passed the ball to the center of the box where Richard deposited it into the lower left corner.

Senior Kristen Carroll (Tewksbury, Mass.) rounded out the scoring when she tapped home the rebound of a freshman Jess Poratti (Essex Junction, Vt.) shot which was saved off the crossbar and left out front.

Sophomore Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) made three saves in 65:14 of work before giving way to classmate Rachel Schaeffer (Lumberton, N.J.) who didn't need to make a save over the final 24:46. Bellamy took the loss for Gordon, making seven saves in 53:35. Freshman Kali Denty (Marshfield, Mass.) had made a pair of saves in the first 18:19 while freshman Giselle Maso (Frisco, Texas) made one save over the final 17:56. Wentworth had advantages in shots (21-5) and corner kicks (5-1).
