SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Seven members of the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team were honored by the Commonwealth Coast Conference as the league announced its all-conference teams and major award winners on Thursday.
Highlighting the seven student-athletes who were honored by the CCC are junior forward Emily Richard (Fremont, N.H.), who was named the league's offensive player of the year, senior defender Mary Pastorelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) who repeated as CCC Defensive Player of the Year, and freshman midfielder Sidney Brogan (Los Angeles, Calif.) was named the league's rookie of the year. Richard and Pastorelli also earned first team all-conference honors while Brogan earned Third Team All-CCC honors.
Joining the three major award winners as All-CCC selections are senior midfielder Morgan Miller (Schenectady, N.Y.) who was named First Team All-CCC, senior back Mary Annon (Concord, N.H.) who was named second team all-conference, while senior midfielder Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) and sophomore goalkeeper Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) were each named Third Team All-CCC.
Richard, a Second Team All-CCC selection as a sophomore, presently leads the conference with a program-record 13 assists to go along with four goals and 27 points on the season. Her 27 points are sixth on the program's single-season scoring list and she was named the CCC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 11. For her career she has started 56 of the 60 games in which she has appeared, scoring 14 goals and adding 20 assists for 48 points. She is presently tied for third on the program's all-time assist list.
Pastorelli, who in addition to being the league's defensive player of the year last year, was Second Team All-CCC as a sophomore and First Team All-CCC as a junior. A solid defender throughout her career, she has helped the Leopards allow just 13 goals in 18 games and record 10 shutouts. Charged with taking the bulk of the team's free kicks, she has shown the ability to create offensive chances for her teammates. Offensively she has scored a pair of goals and assisted on a third. In 77 career games (69 starts), she has six goals and three assists for 15 points.
For the second season in a row in third time in four seasons, the Leopards have captured the league's rookie of the year award. In 17 games (17 starts), Brogan is tied for the team lead with eight goals and has added a pair of assists for 18 points, which also ties her for second on the team. Two of her goals have been game-winning goals and she recorded a career-high five points in a 5-1 win over Emmanuel on Sept. 6.
Miller earns her fourth all-conference nod as she was honorable mention as a freshman and second team as a sophomore before being named to the first team in each of the last two seasons. A versatile, two-way midfielder, Miller has often controlled possessions for the Black & Gold which has led to numerous offensive chances and defensively has been a key reason why Wentworth has allowed less than a goal per game as well as posting 10 shutouts. Miller, the CCC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 3, is also having the finest offensive season of her career with four goals and three assists for 11 points. The program's all-time leader in games played (82) and games started (80), she has seven goals and seven assists for 21 career points.
Annon earns second team all-conference honors for the second straight season after scoring a pair of goals and assisting on five others for nine points. Starting 10 of the 17 games in which she has appeared in, she has been a steady, two-way player throughout her career as she has played on the defensive end as well as at forward. The team's primary corner kick taker during her four years, she has started 68 of the 76 games in which she has played, scoring 13 goals and assisting on 18 others for 44 career points. Her 18 career assists tie her for fifth on the program's all-time list.
The 2014 CCC Rookie of the Year, Weinberger is tied with Brogan for the team lead in goals (eight) and second in points (18). Starting all 18 of the team's contests, two of her goals have been game-winning goals and she had a pair of goals in a 4-0 win over Curry on Sept. 10. Weinberger has started 67 of the 75 games in which she has played over the course of her career, scoring 26 goals (five game winners) and assisting on 12 others for 64 points. She ranks fourth on the program's all-time list in goals and points and is tied for 10th in assists.
A Third Team All-CCC selection as a rookie, this season Robinson has posted a 7-2-3 record with a 0.42 goals against average, a .902 save percentage, and seven shutouts, all of which lead the CCC. She has allowed just five goals in 1070:14 and was named the CCC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6. In 34 career games (33 starts) she is 22-5-5 with a 0.50 goals against average, a .884 save percentage, and 13 shutouts. She ranks first in program history in save percentage and goals against average while she is second in wins.
Co-regular season champions of the CCC, Wentworth sits at 12-3-3 overall and finished CCC play with a 7-0-2 record. Seeded second in the upcoming CCC Tournament, the Leopards will host seventh-seeded Western New England in a CCC quarterfinal on Saturday at 3:00.
