BOSTON, Mass. – On the heels of winning the first Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship in program history, three members of the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team have earned weekly honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Junior Ali Leach (Stowe, Vt.) was named CCC Offensive Player of the Week, senior Mary Pastorelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) was named CCC Defensive Player of the Week, and freshman Sidney Brogan (Los Angeles, Calif.) was named CCC Rookie of the Week. These honors cover games played from Oct. 31-Nov. 6.
Leach scored the game-winning goal in each of Wentworth's two CCC Tournament games last week. Her goal in the eighth minute of the semifinal win over Endicott was the game's lone goal as the Leopards advanced to their second final in the last three seasons with a 1-0 win. In the championship game, she provided the only goal Wentworth would need, scoring in the 25th minute. The Leopards would go on to defeat Gordon, 4-0. In 20 games played (19 starts), Leach has six goals and four assists for 16 points. Four of her goals have been game-winning goals.
Pastorelli was a key reason why the Leopards did not allow a goal during the entire CCC tournament and yielded just 14 shots (four on goal) in the semifinals and finals combined. In the title game victory over Gordon, Pastorelli assisted on Wentworth's second goal of the game (in the 44th minute) and stepped up to convert a penalty kick in the 61st minute. A key reason why the Leopards have not allowed a goal in the last 471:46, Pastorelli also has three goals and three assists on the season for a career-best nine points in 21 games
Brogan continued her strong rookie campaign by scoring a goal in the CCC title game victory over Gordon. That goal was her ninth of the season which ties her for the team lead. She was also an instrumental part of the midfield, which kept opponents off the scoreboard in both tournament contests this past week. In 20 games (20 starts) she also has recorded three assists for 21 points, which ties her for second on the team.
Winners of three in a row and riding a seven-game (6-0-1) unbeaten streak, Wentworth sits at 15-3-3. Champions of the CCC, the Leopards will play in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament for the first time in program history on Saturday.
