Women's Soccer Edges UMass Dartmouth

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Sidney Brogan (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored the game's lone goal and junior Christie Fleming (Braintree, Mass.) made five saves to record the shutout as the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team edged the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 1-0, in a non-conference contest played at Sweeney Field.

With the win the Leopards improve to 2-2-0 on the season while the Corsairs fall to 1-3-1.

Both teams had chances to score early in the contest, however Fleming and freshman Jaimee O'Brien (West Springfield, Mass.) each made a save to keep the contest scoreless. Wentworth took five corner kicks in the first 21:00 minutes but was only able to create a couple of shots.

Brogan recorded her first goal of the season at the 24:37 mark when senior Emily Richard (Fremont, N.H.) sent a pass from the low right side to Brogan who was just outside of the box. Her shot found the back of the net to the upper right side.

In the 29th minute, Richard nearly made it a 2-0 game, however O'Brien came up with a save right on the doorstep.

Wentworth carried play for most of the second half, however UMass Dartmouth was able to get all three of its shots on target. Fleming came up with all three to keep it at 1-0.

O'Brien made six stops for the Corsairs. Wentworth had a 19-8 shot advantage and took all 11 corner kicks in the game.

The Leopards open Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Saturday at Nichols.
