Poratti Scores Twice in Women's Soccer Setback at Emmanuel

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Jess Poratti (Essex Junction, Vt.) scored the Leopards' first two goals of the season, but the Saints of Emmanuel College rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team on Tuesday evening at Roberto Clemente Field.

The Saints earn their first win of the season and shift to 1-1 overall, while the Leopards drop to 0-2-1 with the loss.

Poratti wasted no time getting on the board for Wentworth, scoring in the first minute of play off a deflection in the box for the 1-0 lead. In the ninth minute, sophomore Emma daSilva (Lowell, Mass.) took a shot on net, but Emmanuel junior keeper Lexi Gawron (South Hadley, Mass.) was there to make the save. Emmanuel answered in the 29th minute, as sophomore Sydney Allen (Charlestown, R.I.) dropped in a long cross off the penalty kick, and found her way to the back of the net for the 1-1 score. Wentworth, which outshot the home team 6-5 in the opening half, headed into the locker room with two final shots on target, both picked up by Gawron.

The Saints switched gears in the second frame, outshooting the Leopards 7-3, but Poratti struck again in the 49th minute on a breakaway for the go-ahead goal. Emmanuel again capitalized on the set piece, as Allen lofted in another corner kick, this time finding the foot of junior Natalie Dash (East Hampton, Conn.). The Saints kept the Leopards at bay, not allowing them a shot on net until the final game-winner by Saints sophomore Paige White (Guilford, Conn.).

Emmanuel outshot Wentworth overall by a margin of 12-9, and took five corners compared to the Leopards' three.

Sophomore Allison Haynes (Shelton, Conn.) made four saves in her first appearance in net for Wentworth, while Gawron earned her first win with five saves in 90 minutes played.

Wentworth returns to the pitch on Friday against Maine-Farmington at the New England College Tournament with kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m.
