Rodriquez, Donahue Propel Women's Soccer to First Win

HENNIKER, N.H, - Sophomores Alexandria Rodriquez (San Diego, Calif.) and Molly Donahue (Quincy, Mass.) each found the back of the net to lead the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team to their first win of the season on Friday afternoon. The Leopards earned a 2-1 victory against UMaine-Farmington in the New England College Tournament, and improve to 1-2-1 on the season, while the Beavers drop to 0-3 overall.

Trailing 0-1 in the 55th minute, Rodriquez answered just over a minute later to deadlock the score, 1-1, before Donahue scored a goal of insurance at 70:25.

The first half showed no points on the scoreboard, despite a 14-3 shots advantage in Wentworth's favor. Both keepers kept the opposition at bay, as UMF junior Mikayla Cameron (Monmouth, Maine) turned away four shots on target for the Beavers. Sophomore Allison Haynes (Shelton, Conn.) stopped two shots for Wentworth in the first 45 minutes, sending both teams into the locker room at a 0-0 draw.

The Beavers were first to get on the board just ten minutes after the whistle, as junior Ashley Gleason (Scarborough, Maine) put one away from a corner kick sophomore McKenna Brodeur (Oakland, Maine). UMF's lead wouldn't last for long, as Wentworth junior Emma daSilva (Lowell, Mass.) sent a quick pass to Rodriquez for a one-touch finish which equalized the match 1-1.

Donahue scored the game-winner just over 15 minutes later, another one-time finish off a chip from classmate Abigail Meyers (Leicester, Mass.). In the remaining 30 minutes, the Leopard defense would not allow the Beavers a shot on net, while Cameron kept the gap at a single goal, saving three shots in the frame.

Wentworth outshot UMF 33-13 overall and owned a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Haynes earned her first collegiate win with three stops in the full 90 minutes played, while Cameron made a career-high 12 saves in the effort.

Wentworth closes out the New England College Tournament tomorrow, September 8 with a 2:30 p.m. kickoff with SUNY Potsdam.
