Women's Soccer Hands SUNY Potsdam First Loss of the Season

HENNIKER, N.H. – Sophomore Emma daSilva (Lowell, Mass.) scored in the eighth minute of the second half to lead the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team over SUNY Potsdam on Saturday afternoon at Don Melander Field.

The Leopards return to Boston from the New England College Classic with two wins, and improve to 2-2-1 overall, and spoil Potsdam's untouched record as the Bears fall to 4-1.

After 45 minutes of scoreless soccer in Henniker, daSilva opened the scoring in the 53rd minute with her first goal of the season. Sharp on the defensive transition, daSilva created a turnover in Wentworth's offensive third, and fired a shot past Beavers' junior goalkeeper Delphine Léonard (Anjou, Quebec.).

The Beavers had their chances offensively, outshooting the Leopards 24-14 - including three shots on net in each half, but Wentworth senior keeper Christie Fleming (Weymouth, Mass.) secured the clean sheet with six saves in the win.

Fleming earns her first win of the season in between the pipes for Wentworth, while Leopard drops to 2-1 with eight saves in the effort.

The Leopards host Emerson College on Wednesday for their home-opener under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
