Keepers Stand Tall as Women's Soccer Battles Curry to 0-0 Draw

MILTON, Mass. – Senior keeper Christie Fleming (Braintree, Mass.) stopped nine shots on target as the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw, 0-0, at Curry College Saturday afternoon.

The Leopards open conference play at 0-0-1 and shift to 4-3-2 overall, while the Colonels move to 0-1-1 in the CCC and 6-3-1 this season.

Both teams had their offensive chances in the match, combining for 35 shots overall. Wentworth fired off seven shots on target in the first half, including three in the first 15, but Curry freshman keeper Maggie Chamberlain (Taunton, Mass.) turned all of them away. Fleming stood tall in net for Wentworth as well, stopping nine shots in the first 45 minutes, including a crucial save in the final three seconds before the halftime buzzer sounded.

While Fleming was not contested in the overtime periods, Wentworth pressed Curry offensively, as junior Jess Poratti (Essex Junction, Vt.) and freshman Ashley Molnar (Northridge, Calif,) each took a bid on net, but both were denied by Chamberlain.

Wentworth outshot Curry 20-15, while the Colonels held a narrow 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Leopards step out of conference for their next contest on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. match against Southern Maine.
