Gordon Eliminates Women's Soccer from Postseason Tournament

WENHAM, Mass. –  The Gordon College women's soccer team used a goal in each half to move on to the next round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference, defeating Wentworth 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Gordon will host UNE on Wednesday for the Semifinal match.

Junior Lexi Potter (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) was goal-hungry from the start, and ripped two shots in the first 15 minutes, one of which was turned away by Wentworth senior keeper Christie Fleming (Braintree, Mass.). Potter connected on her next shot on target at 15:59, giving Gordon a 1-0 lead with assistance from classmate Ashton Barkey (Boca Raton, Fla.).

A minute later, Wentworth senior Madyson Reno (Superior, Colo.) nearly equalized the score, but Fighting Scots junior Giselle Maso (Frisco, Texas) denied the attempt to keep the Leopards at bay. Reno's shot was the only one on frame that the Leopards had in the match.

Fleming had two more saves in the remainder of the first half, but was bested just 42 seconds after halftime by junior Devin Lacroix (Candia, N.H.). Lacroix's insurance goal came from senior Asha Steele (Bedford, N.H.), and the 2-0 score held as the final buzzer sounded.

Maso made one save in the victory, while Fleming closes her senior campaign at 6-9-2 with six saves.
