Lynx Blank Women's Soccer in Season Debut

BOSTON, Mass. –  The Wentworth women's soccer team dropped its season opener to Lesley University, 3-0, Friday afternoon at Sweeney Field.

The Lynx put away two goals in the first half and one in the second and open their 2019 campaign at 1-0, while the Leopards drop to 0-1.

The Lynx, who outshot the hosts 17-1, fired four shots off target within the first ten minutes, before Alexandria Torres opened the game with an unassisted line drive to the far-left corner.  While solid defense from Lesley kept Wentworth out of its attacking third, Tayla Mayberry meanwhile floated a header into the back of the net, giving the Lynx a 2-0 lead just before halftime.

In the 69th minute, freshman Ashley Molnar (Northridge, Calif.)  leaped for a redirected header giving Wentworth its best scoring opportunity of the match, yet soared just above the crossbar. Lesley tacked on its third and final goal of the game just over ten minutes later, with an unassisted upper-90 goal from Chloe Kouyoumdjian.

Brittley Gaan earned the victory in net for the Lynx and was not contested all match, while junior Allison Haynes (Shelton, Conn.) suffered the loss with four saves in 90 minutes.

Wentworth travels across Boston tomorrow afternoon for another non-conference match at 2:00 p.m. at UMass Boston.
