Women's Soccer Highlights Senior Day with Epic Battle Against Curry

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-1 tie with Curry College on Saturday afternoon in dramatic Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Sweeney Field.

Wentworth improves to 2-3-2 in league play and fares well for postseason play while moving to 6-10-2 overall this season. The Colonels move to 1-5-1 against league opponents and move to 6-11-1 overall.

SCORING

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Leopards found themselves down 1-0 after a controversial call on the pitch, awarding the Colonels a penalty kick in the 53rd minute. Curry junior Tayla Randall sent a line drive to the lower right corner, putting the Colonels up 1-0.
  • Wentworth dominated possession for the first two halves, outshooting the visitors 14-5 in second-half action alone. Curry freshman keeper Oliver Hutchinson stopped seven shots on target up until the 88th minute, when the Leopards struck back with resilience.
  • With two minutes left in regulation, sophomore Ashley Molnar (Northridge, Calif.) lofted a ball on target from 40 yards out, which skimmed the tips of Hutchinson's fingers and into the Curry twine for the 1-1 equalizer.
  • Curry took four shots in overtime with only one landing on target that was turned away by junior keeper Allison Haynes (Shelton, Conn.). Curry's Alyson Hampston flung herself towards the Wentworth net, making contact on the ball with her right knee, but Haynes was quick on her feet to keep the game tied at 1-1.

  • Haynes made four saves in the conference match and moves to 6-12-1 overall.
