BOSTON, Mass. – The Lesley University women's soccer team scored a pair of goals in the first half and held on for a 2-1 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in the season opener for both teams.
Emily Hagen scored for the Leopards, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both teams had chances early with attempts going wide of the mark in a six-minute span.
- In the 21st minute of action, Madelyn Seder put a shot on net for the Black & Gold, which was stopped by Lauren Lacy.
- At the 23:18 mark, Abby Kalou gave Lesley a 1-0 lead when she took a pass from Chase Livesey and placed a shot inside the right post.
- Wentworth had a scoring chance in the 27th minute off a corner kick, however, Jordan Dahan's bid went wide of the mark.
- With 13:00 left in the half, the Lynx upped their lead to 2-0 as Sasha Porter caused a turnover and sent a shot to the upper middle of the net.
- Seder nearly put the Black & Gold on the board with a shot that was saved by Lacy in the 59th minute.
- In the 73rd minute, Brooke Finlay took a shot that hit the crossbar. On the rebound, a foul was called in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Hagen stepped up to the spot and put home the attempt.
- Lacy made a pair of saves for Lesley, while Shyla Kulesza made three stops for the Leopards. Lesley had a 12-8 shot advantage and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
- Today was the fourth all-time meeting between the two teams.
