Women's Tennis Team Ends 2010 on a High Note

BOSTON, Mass. – Meredith Gratton's (West Chazy, N.Y.) three-set win at number three singles ended the Wentworth women's tennis season on a high note as the Leopards defeated Worcester State, 5-4.

 

The visiting Lancers held a 2-0 lead after doubles play, taking numbers one and three, while Joanna Gustafson (Ashburnham, Mass.) and Gratton picked up Wentworth's lone doubles point.

 

Gustafson won at number two singles to tie the match before Worcester State won at number one singles to take a 3-2 lead.  Natalya Cappellini (Falmouth, Mass.) claimed victory at number five singles to tie the match at 3-all before Lana Ho (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) won at number four singles, giving Wentworth a 4-3 lead.  The Lancers tied the match at 4-all with a straight-set win at number six singles, leaving the outcome of the number three singles match to determine the match's winner.

 

Gratton fell in the first set, 4-6, before taking a 6-2 win in the second set.  The third set was played as a tiebreaker, with Gratton taking a 10-8 decision and giving Wentworth a 5-4 win.

 

The Leopards end the season at 5-10.
