Leopards Defeated by Roger Williams in Season Opener

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team began Commonwealth Coast Conference play Saturday with a 9-0 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology.

 

Junior Leah Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) picked up two wins on the day, defeating Joanna Gustafson (Ashburnham, Mass.)  6-1, 6-1 and paired up with sophomore Caitlin Osepchuk (Ocean Grove, N.J.) at #1 singles for the 8-2 win over Jeannine Stover (Calais, Maine) and Angela Brandt (Northport, Maine).

 

Freshman Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.) earned her first collegiate win, taking her #2 singles match 6-0, 6-0 over Stover. She also got a doubles win with sophomore Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.), as the duo beat Gustafson and Meredith Gratton (West Chazy, N.Y.) 8-5.

 

Osepchuk won her #3 singles match 6-1, 6-0 over Lydia Caserta (Hudson, Mass.) , while Wolfe beat Brandt 6-0, 6-2 in the #4 flight. Senior Katelin Richard (West Islip, N.Y.) picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Gratton at #5 singles, and sophomore Libby Magner (Lakefield, Mass.) won 6-1, 6-2 at #6 over Natalya Cappellini (Falmouth, Mass.).

 

Richard and sophomore Kristin Dono (West Boylston, Conn.) had the ninth win for the Hawks at #3 doubles, defeating Cappellini and Lana Ho (Vineyard Haven, Mass.).
