DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College women's tennis team improved to 6-0 on the season Wednesday with a 9-0 victory over visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match at Francis W. Robinson Courts. Nichols moves to 4-0 in TCCC matches, while Wentworth dips to 1-2 overall and in conference play.

Nichols won first through third singles without dropping a game, but the fourth through sixth flights were closer matches, especially in the second sets.

Maria Balabanova (Moscow, Russia) defeated Lana Ho, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 4 singles, and sophomore Chelsey Miller (Salem, Conn.) won a 6-1, 7-5 decision at fifth singles over Meredith Gratton. The closest match of the day came at the sixth flight as first year Megan Woodruff (Morris, Conn.) defeated Natalya Cappellini, 6-3, 7-6 (7-0).

The Bison made quick work of the doubles portion, dropping just four games across three flights. Senior Molly McGuire (E. Sandwich, Mass.) and first year Jillian McQuiggan (Weymouth, Mass.) earned an 8-1 win at No. 1 singles over Joanna Gustafson and Gratton to remain undefeated on the year (5-0).

Nichols is back in action on Wednesday in a 4 p.m. home match against Thomas (Maine) before hosting Eastern Nazarene for a noon TCCC match Saturday at noon. Wentworth hosts Gordon Thursday in a 4 p.m. TCCC match at the Sportsmen's Tennis Club.
