Emmanuel Defeats Wentworth, 8-1

BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel Women's Tennis Team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 8-1, in a Colleges of the Fenway (COF) rivalry played at the Winsor School on Wednesday night. The victory for the Saints improved the squad to 6-1 on the season and extended their win streak to six matches. With the loss, Wentworth dropped to 3-4 overall.

 

The Saints swept doubles action, winning all three matches, and then defeated the Leopards in 5 of the 6 singles matches. Emmanuel's freshman Taylor Dey (Woodbridge, Conn.) stretched her collegiate unbeaten streak (6-0) as she won in straight sets at 1st singles, 6-1, 6-1. Senior captain Nory Hayes (Newport, R.I.) improved to 5-1 on the year after her 6-2, 6-1 win at 2nd singles. Junior Megan Harrington (Leicester, Mass.) posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at 3rd singles.

 

Freshman Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.), who is also undefeated in college, won in straight sets in the fourth singles slot, 6-1, 6-1. Junior Alexandra Shakra (Bedford, N.H.) took home a 6-2, 6-0 win in 5th singles. Sophomore Victoria Trull (Lowell, Mass.) went three sets, before falling to Wentworth's Lana Ho in 6th singles, 2-6, 6-2, 10-2.

 

In doubles matches, Dey and Hayes defeated Joanna Gustafson and Meredith Gratton, 8-4. Harrington teamed up with classmate Catherine Dunphy (Duxbury, Mass.) for an 8-5 win at second doubles. Juniors Taylor Kelly (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Brianna Murphy (Wilbraham, Mass.) notched an 8-2 win over Lydia Caserta and Liz Linehan.
