Endicott Soars Past Women's Tennis

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team stayed on top of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) standings with a perfect 4-0 mark after winning 8-1 over Wentworth at South Campus Courts Wednesday afternoon. 

The Gulls improved to 6-0 overall while the Leopards dropped to .500 at 3-3 overall and 2-3 in conference matches.

Endicott swept all three doubles matches with senior #1 doubles players Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) and Emily Annis (Hampton, N.H.) winning 8-0 and the #2 doubles duo of senior Laura MacLeod (Mashpee, Mass.) and freshman Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) taking their match by the same score, 8-0.

In #3 doubles, Gulls senior Kristen DiFillippo (Lynnfield, Mass.) and junior Rachel Fenstermaker (Somerset, Mass.) battled for their 8-5 win over Wentworth junior Lana Ho (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) and freshman Virginia Ofer (Cooperstown, N.Y.). 

In singles play, Cioffi bested her Leopards opponent in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 in #1 singles to remain unbeaten at 6-0. 

Wentworth earned a point in #2 singles as sophomore Olivia Hegner (Medford, Mass.) won 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 over Emily Marcello (Greenwood, Ind.).

The Gulls took the rest of the singles matches as Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.), Emily McDonough (West Hartford, Conn.), Melanie Weinick (Colchester, Conn.) and Ashley Sullivan (Concord, N.H.) all won in straight sets to cap off the Endicott win. 

The Gulls travel to UMass Dartmouth tomorrow for a 3:30 pm non-conference match.  Wentworth next hosts CCC rival Salve Regina at the Sportsmen's Tennis Club on Tuesday, September 27th 3:30 pm.
