Women's Tennis Wins Third Straight

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team dropped its first home match of the 2012 season, falling 9-0 to Wentworth Tuesday afternoon. The Lions slip to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Leopards elevate to 3-1 on the year and 2-0 in league play with the win.

The visitors prevailed in all three doubles matches to sport a 3-0 lead heading into singles action.

Elise Sleeper (Sanford, Maine) and Samantha Jones (Wareham, Mass.) fell 8-2 at the top position to Wentworth's Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) and Virginia Ofer (Cooperstown, N.Y.). Juju Atwater (Weymouth, Mass.) and Kelsey Waddle (Olathe, Kan.) were edged at the third slot, dropping a tiebreaker as the Leopards' Olivia Hegner (Medford, Mass.) and Val Maccarone (Cranston, R.I.) earned a 9-8 win.

Wentworth captured all six singles points to seal its second conference victory of the season.

Sharon Lemire (Lyndeboro, N.H.) suffered a 6-2, 6-2 loss at the No. 1 spot to Corcoran. Sleeper also fell 6-2, 6-2 at the second position for the Lions.

Kathryn McLaughlin (Huntington Station, N.Y.) dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision at the third slot while Atwater conceded an 8-5 result at the No. 6 position to Wentworth's Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.).

Both teams are back in action on Thursday as Eastern Nazarene continues league action at Roger Williams and Wentworth is at Suffolk.
