Curry Rallies Past Women's Tennis

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team won five of six singles matches and erased a 3-0 deficit as the Colonels edged Wentworth, 5-4, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action. With the win, Curry improves to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in league play while the Leopards fall to 2-3 (0-2).

The Leopards earned their lone singles point at the number one slot as sophomore Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) knocked off Curry's senior Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.), 6-7, (7-5), 6-3, 6-3 before Curry went on to win the next five matches. At number two Emily Mongello (Plymouth, Mass.) defeated senior Deborah Massaro (Stony Point, N.Y.), 6-1, 6-0, at number three freshman Molly Louis (Guilford, Conn.) defeated sophomore Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.), 6-2, 6-1, at number four senior Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.) bested junior Virginia Ofer (Cooperstown, N.Y.), 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. At number five sophomore Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.) conquered junior Val Maccarone (Cranston, R.I), 6-1, 6-1 before Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.) earned a three-set (5-7, 6-2, 6-1) victory over senior Olivia Hegner (Medford, Mass.).

Wentworth swept doubles play as Corcoran and Ofer teamed up to beat Mongello and Chuha, 8-6 at number one. At number two, Massaro and McColgan defeated Curley and senior Elizabeth Zarkades (Beverly, Mass.), 8-4, while at number three, Maccarone and Hegner bested Louis and Prete, 8-6.

Curry is back in action on Wednesday when the Colonels host Roger Williams. Wentworth returns to the court on Monday when the Leopards travel to UMass Dartmouth.
