Women's Tennis Falls at Gordon, 8-1

WENHAM, Mass. — The Gordon College women's tennis improved to 2-1 in conference play with an 8-1 win over Wentworth. The Scots swept doubles competition to begin the afternoon and received five singles wins to clinch the win.

Caroline Hall (Corona, Calif.) and Cindi Flynn (Sunset Beach, Calif.) have now won six straight matches at the top doubles flight—defeating Wentworth's Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) and Virginia Ofer (Cooperstown, N.Y.), 8-2.

Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and Lily Drescher (Reading, Mass.) improved to 6-2 as a team, with an 8-1 win over Deborah Massaro (Stony Point, N.Y.) and Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.) at number two.

Jessie Dupre (North Billerica, Mass.) and Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) took an 8-3 decision in their first match as a team, besting Olivia Hegner (Medford, Mass.) and Val Maccarone (Cranston, R.I.) at number three.

With a 3-0 lead heading into singles competition, Gordon got victories from Hall (6-2, 6-2 over Corcoran at number one) and Flynn (6-1, 6-3 over Ofer at number four) to clinch the overall match victory.

Massaro beat Yeaw (6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6)) at number two to give Wentworth its lone point of the day before Hannah Damon defeated Hegner, 0-6, 6-3, 6-3, at number six, Drescher defeated McColgan, 6-3, 6-3, at number three, and Rebecca Levy defeated Marisa Page (Warwick, R.I.), 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7)) at number five.

With the win Gordon improves to 5-3 overall and is at Salem State tomorrow. Wentworth (2-4, 0-3) is at Eastern Nazarene on Saturday.
