BOSTON, Mass. – The Nichols College women's tennis team won its third straight match as the Bison opened Commonwealth Coast Conference play with a 9-0 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in a match played at Harvard University.
The Bison (4-1, 1-0) took a earned an 8-0 win at number two doubles as senior Lindsay Benoit (Holden, Mass.) teamed with sophomore Cristina Szepanski (Windsor Locks, Conn.) for the triumph over freshmen Caitlyn Briggs (Burrillville, R.I.) and Emily Jodoin (Lee, Mass.). Freshman Alanna Judd (Westboro, Mass.) teamed with classmate Lauren Candia (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) to take an 8-2 win at number one over juniors Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) and Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.). Nichols ended double play with a 3-0 lead after freshman Ashley Dallaire (East Bridgewater, Mass.) teamed with classmate Daniela Saldarriaga (Medellin, Colombia) for an 8-2 win at number three over juniors Nicole Mooney (Waterford, Conn.) and Laura Boyd (Woodstock, Vt.).
Candia defeated Jodoin, 6-0, 6-1, at number four to give the Bison a 4-0 lead before Szepanski swept McColgan, 6-0, 6-0, at number two to clinch the match. Number five singles saw sophomore Emma Carey (Venice, Fla.) defeat Boyd, 6-0, 6-1, and number three singles saw Benoit defeat Briggs, 6-1, 6-2. At number one singles Judd defeated Corcoran, 6-4, 6-0, and freshman Meghan Corr (Suffield, Conn.) triumphed over Mooney at number six, 6-4, 6-1.
Both teams continue CCC play on Tuesday as Wentworth is at Roger Williams and Nichols is at Endicott.
