Roger Williams Sweeps Women's Tennis

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Wentworth Institute of Technoogy women's tennis team suffered its second straight defeat as the Leopards dropped a 9-0 decision to Roger Williams in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.

Roger Williams began the match with default wins at number three doubles and number singles, putting the Hawks on top 2-0. Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) and Alexandra Brown (Kennett, Mo.) paired up at number one to defeat Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.) and Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) 8-0. Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) and Caitlin Pierpoint (Glastonbury, Conn.) claimed an 8-1 victory over Laura Boyd (Woodstock, Vt.) and Nicole Mooney (Waterford, Conn.) at number two.

At singles, Schmidt prevailed at the number one position with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.), while Kathryn Hughes earned a 6-3, 6-2 win against Briggs at number two. Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) also earned a win for RWU, beating Jodoin 6-1, 6-0 at number three. Caroline McCarthy (Carver, Mass.) and Ali Stankiewicz (Brunswick, Maine) wrapped up the match for the Hawks with identical 6-0, 6-1 wins at numbers four and five over Boyd and Mooney, respectively.

The Leopards (1-3, 0-2) travel to Worcester State on Thursday to complete a suspended match from Sept. 2.
