Endicott Soars Past Women's Tennis

BOSTON, Mass. – Defending Commonwealth Coast Conference champion Endicott College picked up its sixth straight win as the Gulls defeated Wentworth, 9-0, in a CCC match played at Harvard University.

With the win the Gulls improve to 7-1 overall and remain unblemished (5-0) league record while the Leopards slip to 2-7 (1-4).

Doubles play saw senior Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.) team with classmate Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) to take an 8-0 win at number two over freshman Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.) and junior Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.). At number one, senior Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and freshman Danya Reilly (Swansea, Mass.) won by an identical score over junior Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) and freshman Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.). Freshman Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) and sophomore Rye, N.H.) gave the Gulls a 3-0 lead with an 8-0 win at number three over juniors Laura Boyd (Woodstock, Vt.) and Nicole Mooney (Waterford, Conn.).

MacLeod defeated Mooney, 6-1, 6-0, at number six before sophomore Jamie Zompa's (Marlborough, Mass.) 6-1, 6-1 win over Boyd at number five clinched the win for Endicott.

Junior Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.) defeated Jodoin, 6-1, 6-1, at number four, Heacox defeated Corcoran, 6-3, 6-0, at number one, and Reilly defeated McColgan, 6-0, 6-2, at number two. Briggs' match at number three went to three sets as she won the opening set over junior Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.), 6-3, before Newman forced a third set with a 6-3 win. In the third set, Newman prevailed, 10-1.

Wentworth is at Eastern Nazarene on Tuesday.
