QUINCY, Mass. – Winning all three doubles flights and five of six singles flights, the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team earned its second Commonwealth Coast Conference victory of the season as the Leopards defeated the Lions, 8-1.
In doubles action, freshman Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) and junior Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) took an 8-1 decision at number one over Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.). Freshman Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.) teamed with junior Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.) to take an 8-1 decision over Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) at number two. The Leopards completed the sweep with an 8-4 win at number three as juniors Laura Boyd (Woodstock, Vt.) and Nicole Mooney (Waterford, Conn.) defeated Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) and Bethany Mohnkern (Petersburg, Pa.).
Corcorcan defeated Steelman, 6-1, 6-1, at number one, Briggs defeated Cressman, 6-0, 6-1, at number three, Jodoin triumphed over Tubbs, 6-2, 6-0, at number four, Boyd took a 6-2, 6-0 decision from Lariviere at number five, and Mooney won at number six, 7-5, 6-4, over Mohnkern to account for the Leopards' five singles wins. Eastern Nazarene's lone point came at number two when Burrello defeated McColgan, 5-7, 7-6, 1-0 (11-9).
Wentworth (3-7, 2-4 CCC) is at Suffolk on Thursday night while Eastern Nazarene (2-8, 1-5) is at Endicott on Saturday.
